FSB consults on 12 sound practices for how financial institutions adopt AI
See how this story connectsThe Financial Stability Board published a consultation report on sound practices for the responsible adoption of AI by all types of financial institutions, with responses due by 22 July 2026 and a final report scheduled for October 2026. The twelve practices cover organisation-wide AI governance (1 to 4), managing AI risks across development and deployment (5 to 10) and AI-related cyber, ICT and third-party risks (11 and 12). The FSB says boards and senior management should refer to them in strategy, technology adoption and risk management, and that they are not an international standard, do not prescribe an approach and do not favour particular AI technologies. The final practices were delivered to the G20 with the FSB chair’s letter dated 8 October and published on 12 October 2026, which lists AI among the risks to the global financial system.
Why it matters
Banks, insurers and asset managers everywhere now have a common FSB reference for AI governance, which national supervisors will cite before they write rules.
