Elvis Presley’s rightsholders sue Anthropic over training on 274 songs
See how this story connectsAuthentic Brands Group, which controls Elvis Presley’s music and likeness, sued Anthropic on 23 October in ABE EPE LLC v. Anthropic, alleging that the company trained Claude on 274 Presley songs without permission and that Claude still produces outputs that reproduce copyrighted songs. The suit seeks $150,000 per infringed song, about $41 million. Rolling Stone says it is one of the first major cases an artist’s estate has brought against an AI company.
Why it matters
It adds an artist’s estate to the record labels and publishers already suing AI developers over music, with a claim aimed at both training and outputs.
