WHO Africa, CEPI and INRB use Claude in the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak response
See how this story connectsAnthropic published a situation report on the use of Claude in the Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. WHO’s Regional Office for Africa built a Claude skill that pulls case and lab counts from each health zone’s slide deck, flags trend changes and summarises district reports, cutting a situation report from about a day to under an hour, and runs several disease models at once. CEPI uses Claude to organise data on vaccine proposals and track the work needed to advance them, with experts choosing which sample cohorts to analyse. INRB, the national biomedical institute, uses Claude Science to assemble virus genomes, build family trees, estimate outbreak scale and identify variants. The report’s 19 September figures: 7,672 confirmed cases, 3,699 deaths, 63 of 167 health zones affected and 94.7% of North Kivu treatment beds occupied. It does not attribute any change in the outbreak to Claude.
