WHO Europe finds 8% of countries have a health AI strategy, but most use AI already

See how this story connects

WHO’s regional office for Europe reported that about 8% of its 53 member states have a health-specific AI strategy, while nearly two-thirds already use AI in diagnostics and half have introduced AI patient chatbots. One in five provides AI education before qualification, one in four trains the existing workforce, fewer than half have checked their legal frameworks and almost 40% have no ethical guidance. Regional director Hans Kluge said governance has to keep pace with deployment.

Why it matters

European health systems are deploying AI far faster than they are writing the rules, liability standards and training to govern it.
