Anthropic opens a verification programme giving vetted biologists looser safeguards
See how this story connectsAnthropic launched the Life Sciences Verification Program in beta. Verified life-science teams and institutions, from academic labs to pharma companies, get access to Mythos, Opus and Sonnet models with safeguards that are more permissive for biology work that the generally available models block, such as drug discovery, research biology, clinical development and manufacturing. Verification reviews research credentials, security standards and ethical oversight, and access is tied to stated use cases. Standard Use renews yearly; a High-risk Use add-on removes all safeguards that block life-science requests for specific projects and renews every six months, with Mythos limited to a small set of vetted entities while broader access is discussed with the US government. Enforcement moves from real-time blocking to offline monitoring; data is kept 30 days and not used for training. Dozens of organisations were onboarded in early access.
Why it matters
Biology capabilities the models refuse by default are now released by credential and use case, with the US government in the loop on the most capable model.
