GPAI merges with the OECD’s AI work in a 44-country partnership

See how this story connects

At the GPAI ministerial summit in New Delhi on 3-4 July 2024, chaired by India, members agreed to merge the Global Partnership on AI with the OECD’s AI policy work. The integrated partnership starts with 44 countries on six continents, is open to developing economies that adhere to the OECD Recommendation on AI, and keeps GPAI’s expert centres in Paris, Montreal and Tokyo.

Why it matters

Countries wanting a seat in GPAI now sign up to the OECD AI Principles, which ties the main expert network to one shared rulebook.
