Ant Group announced a financial large language model at the INCLUSION Conference on the Bund in Shanghai on 8 September 2023, fine-tuned from its own general model on hundreds of billions of tokens of Chinese financial text and more than 600,000 instructions from over 300 industry use cases. It released Zhixiaobao 2.0, a consumer assistant for market analysis and asset allocation that would open to users after regulatory approval, and Zhixiaozhu 1.0, an assistant for advisers and insurance claims staff. Ant said the model beat general models on its own Fin-Eval benchmark.

Why it matters

China’s largest payments and wealth platform built a finance-specific model for consumer advice, and its consumer launch waited on approval under China’s generative AI rules that took effect in August 2023.
