NVIDIA announces Blackwell B200 GPU and GB200 NVL72 rack at GTC

See how this story connects

NVIDIA announced the Blackwell platform at GTC on 18 March 2024: a 208-billion-transistor GPU made on a custom TSMC 4NP process from two dies joined by a 10 TB/s link. Its GB200 NVL72 rack joins 72 Blackwell GPUs and 36 Grace CPUs, which NVIDIA says gives up to 30 times the LLM inference performance of the same number of H100s at up to 25 times lower cost and energy.

Why it matters

AWS, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Meta, OpenAI and xAI said they would use Blackwell, and its liquid-cooled racks set new power and cooling needs for data centres.
