The Greater Memphis Chamber announced on 4 December 2024 that xAI is expanding its Colossus supercomputer facility in Memphis to at least one million GPUs. NVIDIA, Dell and Supermicro will set up operations in Memphis to support it; xAI announced the site in June 2024.

Why it matters

A single lab planned a cluster of a million GPUs, raising the scale of power and grid supply that one AI training site would need.
