Insilico Medicine said on 28 June 2023 that the first patient had been dosed in a Phase 2 trial of INS018_055, an oral drug for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. The company used its AI platform to find the drug’s target and design the molecule. The study runs for 12 weeks.

Why it matters

Drug developers and investors could track an AI-discovered molecule through patient trials, where its efficacy would be tested on the same terms as conventional drugs.
