Law No. 132 of 23 September 2025 - Provisions and delegations to the Government on artificial intelligence
It is the first national AI law in the EU and complements the AI Act. It designates AgID and the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) as national AI authorities, requires parental authorisation for children under 14 to use AI, keeps final decisions with professionals in health care and public administration, sets workplace and professional disclosure duties, and creates a criminal offence for unlawfully disseminating harmful AI-generated deepfakes (1 to 5 years’ imprisonment). It also clarifies copyright for AI-assisted works and text-and-data mining, and delegates further rules to the Government.
Why it matters
Companies operating in Italy face extra national duties (e.g., disclosure to workers and patients, minors’ access) and criminal exposure for deepfake misuse beyond the AI Act.
What it requires
Penalties
Deepfake dissemination offence: 1 to 5 years’ imprisonment where unjust harm is caused.
