MAS issues final AI risk management guidelines for Singapore’s financial institutions

See how this story connects

The Monetary Authority of Singapore issued its Guidelines on Artificial Intelligence Risk Management, which apply to all financial institutions and all forms of AI, including generative AI and AI agents. Boards and senior management are expected to oversee AI risk; firms should identify AI use cases, assess each one’s risk materiality, keep an AI inventory and apply lifecycle controls in proportion to that risk. The guidelines take effect on 7 October 2027, with lifecycle controls and capabilities expected by 7 October 2028.

Why it matters

Banks, insurers, payment firms and fund managers in Singapore have a year to put AI oversight, risk ratings and inventories in place.
