NHS England updates its AI scribe guidance and supplier rules

See how this story connects

NHS England published version 2 of its guidance on AI-enabled ambient scribing, which builds on its national self-certified registry for ambient voice technology suppliers. Products must be at least MHRA Class I registered and meet DTAC, DCB0129/0160 clinical-safety and data-protection requirements, and pilots are capped at four months so they cannot be used to avoid compliance; patients should be told how their information is used and given the chance to object.

Why it matters

Suppliers of AI scribes to the NHS need at least MHRA Class I registration and must self-certify on a national registry, and pilots cannot run past four months.
