Thailand consults on draft principles for a risk-based AI law

See how this story connects

Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and ETDA put draft principles for an AI law to public consultation in June 2025, closing on 24 June. The draft leaves prohibited and high-risk categories to be set later by an enforcement body and sector regulators, requires offshore high-risk providers to appoint a local representative and requires serious incidents to be reported. It also proposes a text and data mining exception and a regulatory sandbox.

Why it matters

AI providers serving Thailand, including foreign ones, saw the duties they may face: local representation, incident reporting and risk management for high-risk systems.
