UK-US Tech Prosperity Deal brings £31bn of US AI investment pledges

See how this story connects

During President Trump’s state visit on 16 September 2025 the UK and US signed a Tech Prosperity Deal covering AI, quantum and nuclear energy, with US firms pledging £31 billion for UK AI and tech infrastructure. Microsoft committed $30 billion (£22 billion), Google £5 billion, CoreWeave £1.5 billion and Salesforce $2 billion, and NVIDIA said it would deploy 120,000 GPUs in the UK. The government named the North East as an AI Growth Zone, with Blackstone projecting £10 billion for a Northumberland data-centre campus and Microsoft and Nscale building a supercomputer of more than 23,000 GPUs in Loughton.

Why it matters

UK AI developers and public bodies get large new domestic GPU capacity, while the North East and Essex host data centres that need grid connections and planning approval.
