Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on 13 January 2025 that the government would take forward all 50 recommendations of Matt Clifford’s AI Opportunities Action Plan. The plan includes a twentyfold rise in public compute by 2030, a National Data Library and AI Growth Zones with faster planning and grid access, starting at Culham in Oxfordshire. Vantage Data Centres, Nscale and Kyndryl committed £14 billion and 13,250 jobs alongside it, and Clifford became the Prime Minister’s adviser on AI opportunities.

Why it matters

Data-centre developers, AI firms and public bodies got a single UK plan setting compute targets, Growth Zone sites and public-data access that later announcements are measured against.
