Utah enacts AI Policy Act with disclosure duties and a state AI office
See how this story connectsGovernor Spencer Cox signed SB 149, the Artificial Intelligence Policy Act, on 13 March 2024; it took effect on 1 May 2024. Businesses using generative AI with consumers in activities overseen by the Division of Consumer Protection must disclose it when asked, and licensed professions such as medicine and mental health must disclose it up front. The law created an Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy in the Department of Commerce, a learning laboratory, and 12-month regulatory mitigation agreements, with fines of up to $2,500 per violation.
Why it matters
