Australia’s education ministers agreed the Australian Framework for Generative Artificial Intelligence in Schools in October 2023, and it was released on 1 December 2023. It sets six principles: teaching and learning; human and social wellbeing; transparency; fairness; accountability; and privacy, security and safety. Schools were to apply it from Term 1 2024.

Why it matters

Government and non-government schools in every Australian state and territory got one set of principles for using tools such as ChatGPT with students from the 2024 school year.
