See how this story connects

Microsoft announced two in-house chips at Ignite on 15 November 2023: the Azure Maia 100 accelerator for training and running large language models, and the Arm-based Cobalt 100 CPU for general cloud work. OpenAI gave feedback on Maia, and both chips were to start rolling out to Microsoft data centres in early 2024, first for Microsoft Copilot and Azure OpenAI Service.
