See how this story connects

The Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office and the Defense Innovation Unit launched the AI Rapid Capabilities Cell in December 2024 to field generative and frontier AI faster. It runs four frontier AI pilots with combatant commands, scales tools across 15 warfighting and enterprise use cases including command and control and cyber operations, and offers $40 million in SBIR funding to small firms. Task Force Lima, set up in 2023 to study generative AI, was sunset and its findings fed the cell’s use cases.
