Naver unveiled HyperCLOVA X, its upgraded large language model, at a company conference on 24 August 2023 and opened a beta of the CLOVA X chatbot in Korean and English that day. Naver said the model had learned about 6,500 times more Korean data than GPT-3.5. It scheduled a beta of the Cue: AI search service for September.

Why it matters

Korea gained a domestic frontier-scale model trained heavily on Korean, which Naver offered to creators and businesses as a local alternative to US models.
