The Financial Services Commission and Korea Development Bank launched the National Growth Fund on 11 December 2025, at 150 trillion won (about $100bn), for AI, semiconductors and other strategic industries. It splits into 15 trillion won of direct equity, 35 trillion won through other funds, 50 trillion won for infrastructure and 50 trillion won of low-interest loans. Early candidates included the national AI computing centre in South Jeolla and the Yongin semiconductor cluster.

Why it matters

Korean AI and chip projects, including data centres and fabs, gained access to state-backed equity and cheap loans on a scale above earlier sector packages.
