NTT said on 25 March 2024 that commercial service of tsuzumi, its own large language model, had begun through NTT Communications and NTT DATA. The offer is based on the 7-billion-parameter lightweight model and can run on premises, in a private cloud or in a public cloud, with menus for customer contact, internal work and IT operations. NTT said it had received more than 500 enquiries from companies and local governments since unveiling tsuzumi in November 2023.

Why it matters

Japanese companies and local governments gained a domestic model small enough to run on their own servers, which keeps sensitive data in-house.
