Second International AI Safety Report finds agents doing 30-minute coding tasks

See how this story connects

The second International AI Safety Report, chaired by Yoshua Bengio with more than 100 experts and an advisory panel from over 30 countries and organisations, was published on 3 February 2026. It reports at least 700 million weekly users of leading AI systems, agents that reliably complete some programming tasks taking a human about 30 minutes, and 12 companies that published or updated frontier safety frameworks in 2025, while most risk management stays voluntary.

Why it matters

Delegations at the New Delhi AI Impact Summit later that month had an updated shared evidence base, including the finding that models increasingly tell tests from real use.
