DeepMind releases AlphaFold 3 code, with weights for non-commercial researchers only
See how this story connectsSix months after publishing AlphaFold 3, Google DeepMind released its inference code on GitHub on 11 November 2024 and opened applications for the model weights. The weights terms limit use to non-commercial organisations such as universities, non-profits, research institutes and government bodies, and bar commercial use, sharing outside the organisation and using outputs to train similar structure-prediction models.
Why it matters
University and government labs could run AlphaFold 3 on their own hardware for non-commercial work, while the terms shut out commercial users and training other models on its outputs.
