See how this story connects

Microsoft said on 24 October 2023 it would invest A$5 billion over two years in hyperscale cloud and AI infrastructure in Australia, taking its data centre sites from 20 to 29 across Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney and raising its computing capacity there by about 250%. The package includes a Microsoft-ASD Cyber Shield partnership with the Australian Signals Directorate and skills programmes for 300,000 more Australians. Microsoft called it the largest investment of its 40 years in the country.

Why it matters
