Anthropic commits 5% of shares to new Public Benefit Fund
See how this story connectsAnthropic said on 18 October 2026 that it is committing 5% of its shares to the Anthropic Public Benefit Fund, a wholly-owned LLC, subject to stockholder approval. The board may add a further 2% for every 50% increase in the company’s value above a set baseline. Anthropic says the Fund might make large donations to nonprofits or direct distributions to specific populations, and names labour-market instability as one case. None of the equity the LLC holds will be used for lobbying or political giving, in the US or abroad.
Why it matters
With the co-founders’ pledge to donate 80% of their equity and the employee equity match, roughly 20% of Anthropic shares will be dedicated to the public good, plus any further percentage added at valuation milestones.
