OpenGCUA releases first open stack for generalist computer-use agents

See how this story connects

Hanzhang Zhou and 14 co-authors released the first version of OpenGCUA, an ongoing project to open the full stack for generalist computer-use agents (GCUAs) that work across visual and programmatic interfaces. On OSWorld-v2, the full configuration raised mean partial score by 19.6 points across eight evaluated models, including GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5, and cut reported steps per task by an average of 53.0% relative to batched GUI-only execution. The authors release their implementation, prompts, evaluation trajectories from all eight models, and preliminary versions of a real-device harness and a cross-device SDK.

Why it matters

The authors say frontier computer-use systems such as GPT-6 Astra’s remain largely closed, which limits systematic study of their design, and OpenGCUA publishes code, prompts and trajectories for that study.
