NICE publishes an AI delivery plan setting evidence standards for NHS AI tools

See how this story connects

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence published a delivery plan for AI covering how its own teams will use AI in evaluating evidence and how it will evaluate AI-enabled health technologies, which must show improved patient outcomes, value for money, consistent performance across populations and safety. NICE committed to an AI best practice methods framework for evidence generation by March 2027 and will coordinate with the MHRA.

Why it matters

Makers of NHS AI tools now know NICE will judge them on outcomes and consistency across populations, alongside MHRA device approval.
