GSA issues AI clause letting agencies test purchased models and requiring change notices

See how this story connects

The US General Services Administration issued an AI acquisition clause as a class deviation from its acquisition regulation, taking effect 19 October. It lets the government test purchased language models for bias, truthfulness and safety and suspend their use, requires contractors to report within seven days any change that weakens safety guardrails or performance, and caps decommissioning liability after a for-cause termination at 25% of the order. Formal rulemaking with public comment will follow.

Why it matters

AI vendors selling to US agencies through GSA must accept government testing and report model changes within seven days, starting 19 October.
