Anthropic released Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4, hybrid models with near-instant and extended-thinking modes that can use tools such as web search during extended thinking (in beta), and made its Claude Code coding agent generally available. Anthropic reported Opus 4 at 72.5% on SWE-bench and priced it at $15/$75 per million input/output tokens.

Why it matters

Developers gained models built for long-running coding and agent tasks, and Claude Code moved from research preview to a supported product.
