OpenAI announced Stargate UK with NVIDIA and Nscale on 16 September 2025, planning to take up to 8,000 GPUs in the first quarter of 2026 with scope for 31,000 over time. Sites include Cobalt Park in the North East AI Growth Zone, and the capacity is meant to run OpenAI models in the UK for public services, regulated industries, research and national security. It follows a memorandum of understanding OpenAI signed with the UK government in July 2025.
