Meta says advertisers worldwide must disclose AI-altered political and social issue ads

See how this story connects

Meta said on 28 November 2023 that from early 2024 advertisers globally must disclose when they use AI or other digital methods to create or alter a political or social issue ad. Disclosure applies to realistic depictions of a real person saying or doing something they did not, of people or events that do not exist, and to altered footage of real events.

Why it matters

Political advertisers on Facebook and Instagram in every country faced a labelling duty for synthetic content before a year with national elections in dozens of countries.
