OpenAI’s models come to Google Cloud, which now sells all three leading closed models
See how this story connectsOpenAI and Google Cloud announced that OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex agentic workflows are coming to Google Cloud’s model garden, with general availability planned in the coming weeks. Google Cloud says it is now the only hyperscale cloud offering all three leading closed-source model families alongside more than 200 first-party, third-party and open models, and names GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna. Purchases go through the Google Cloud Marketplace, appear on one invoice and draw down existing Google Cloud spend commitments. Google says customer prompts and outputs stay inside the customer’s data perimeter and are never used to train foundation models, with zero-data-retention and Confidential Compute options to follow; OpenAI models run on dedicated Google Cloud infrastructure behind isolated gateways. OpenAI models will also be available in Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent. OpenAI says Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.
Why it matters
The frontier labs’ models are becoming interchangeable line items inside each other’s clouds, with the cloud provider holding the contract, the invoice and the data boundary.
