Pentagon says it has stopped using Anthropic’s products

See how this story connects

A Department of War official told the BBC the department has ceased the use of Anthropic products, months after Secretary Pete Hegseth designated Anthropic a national security supply-chain risk and set a six-month phase-out deadline on 27 February. Sources told the BBC that Claude had been embedded in Palantir’s Maven Smart System, the Pentagon’s main platform for organising intelligence. The dispute began when Anthropic refused to lift usage limits that it said guard against mass surveillance and autonomous weapons; its lawsuit over the designation continues.

Why it matters

The US military has cut out the AI company whose usage limits it objected to, while Anthropic’s court challenge to the label goes on.
