OpenAI offers academic labs free access to its life-sciences model GPT-Rosalind

See how this story connects

OpenAI announced the Rosalind Academic Plan on 15 October 2026. Eligible academic labs get up to 30 Business Standard seats at no cost for up to 12 months, access to its commercially available frontier models within plan limits, and access to GPT-Rosalind, its life-sciences model with the Rosalind Workbench for tool use across medicinal chemistry, genomics and wet-lab assistance, subject to trusted-access approval. Research data shared through the plan is not used for training by default.

Why it matters

Access to a frontier biology model stays gated by OpenAI’s trusted-access approval even for academic labs on the free plan.
