OECD Employment Outlook puts 27% of jobs in occupations at highest risk of automation

See how this story connects

The OECD published its Employment Outlook 2023 on 11 July 2023, with much of it devoted to AI and the labour market. It found that occupations at the highest risk of automation make up about 27% of employment on average across OECD countries, and Secretary-General Mathias Cormann said AI’s effect on jobs would depend on policy choices.

Why it matters

Labour ministries in OECD countries got a common estimate of automation exposure and evidence on AI at work to plan retraining and protections around.
