G7 agrees guiding principles and a voluntary code of conduct for advanced AI developers

See how this story connects

G7 leaders issued a statement on the Hiroshima AI Process on 30 October 2023 with two documents: the Hiroshima Process International Guiding Principles and the International Code of Conduct for Organizations Developing Advanced AI Systems. The code is voluntary guidance for organisations developing the most advanced AI systems, including foundation models and generative AI, and is part of a four-pillar Hiroshima AI Process framework. The European Commission welcomed the agreement.

Why it matters

Developers of frontier and generative models got a G7-backed voluntary code, which later gained an OECD-run reporting framework for companies that sign up.
