Anthropic, OpenAI, Hugging Face and Alibaba hand four agent projects to the Agentic AI Foundation

See how this story connects

The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), set up under the Linux Foundation in December 2025, announced four new projects on 22 October 2026 at AGNTCon + MCPCon North America in San Jose: Agent Skills from Anthropic, Open Responses from OpenAI, OpenEnv from Hugging Face and OpenSandbox from Alibaba. The foundation now hosts 10 projects, with the Agent2Agent protocol, Agent Router, agentgateway, AGENTS.md, goose and the Model Context Protocol. Anthropic says more than 70 agent platforms, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code, use Agent Skills, that 1 million skills have been published and nearly 280 million installed, and that it is donating the name, logo, GitHub organisation and agentskills.io domain, with engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and other companies maintaining the standard as individuals. The Register reports that the AAIF has passed 300 members, 60 of them this quarter, with Ant Group, the Gates Foundation, MongoDB, Nutanix, Royal Bank of Canada, Vercel and Vultr joining as Gold Members.

Why it matters

The skills format, the cross-provider API, the training environments and the sandbox that agent builders use now sit under one vendor-neutral governance, with MCP.
