DeepMind launches AlphaGenome to predict how DNA variants affect gene regulation

See how this story connects

Google DeepMind introduced AlphaGenome, a model that predicts how single variants in long human DNA sequences affect a wide range of gene-regulating processes, and made it available in preview through an API for non-commercial research. The work was published in Nature in January 2026.

Why it matters

Geneticists studying rare disease and cancer gained an API to score the regulatory effect of DNA variants, later extended into a precomputed atlas.
