By 20 September 2023 police in Almendralejo, Extremadura, had received at least 22 complaints about fake nude images of underage girls made with AI. The suspects were boys aged 12 to 14; those aged 14 can be prosecuted under Spain’s juvenile criminal law. The Almendralejo judicial police brigade is investigating and will report to prosecutors.

Why it matters

Spanish families and schools found that children could make sexual images of classmates with AI tools.
