China created National Data Group Co, a state-owned enterprise based in Xiongan New Area in Hebei province. Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang attended the launch ceremony on Tuesday 20 October 2026. According to Xinhua, the company is tasked with developing and utilising data resources, serving AI development and building up the data industry.

Why it matters

Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang described the company’s creation as a ‘major strategic decision’ by the party leadership under President Xi Jinping, and said it would help China seize the initiative in AI development, accelerate the construction of a ‘digital China’ and build new national competitive advantages, according to Xinhua.
