At its 2026 Apsara Conference, Alibaba Cloud said Qwen 4 is in training and set a roadmap for Qwen 4.5 and Qwen 5 models of 5 to 10 trillion parameters. Its chip unit T-Head unveiled the Zhenwu V900 for training and inference, with 216 GB of memory and mass production planned for the first quarter of 2027, and Alibaba set a target of more than 20 GW of data centre capacity by 2032.

Why it matters

China’s largest cloud provider is pairing its own AI chips with larger Qwen models as US export rules limit NVIDIA supply.
