Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei wrote that Anthropic has never advocated banning open-weights models, after reports that some US officials were considering barring US companies from using Chinese open-weights models. He called open models without dangerous capabilities a public good and said protectionist bans would not address his main national security concerns, chiefly authoritarian governments building more powerful AI than the US.
