Anthropic launches its Economic Index on how Claude is used across jobs

Anthropic launched the Anthropic Economic Index with a first report based on millions of anonymised Claude.ai conversations. It found use concentrated in software development and technical writing, AI used in at least a quarter of tasks in about 36% of occupations, and more augmentation (57%) than automation (43%). Anthropic opened the dataset to researchers.

Why it matters

Economists and policymakers gained open data on which tasks people actually hand to an AI model, from millions of real conversations.
