Anthropic adds official voting information and election-night results to Claude before the US midterms

See how this story connects

Anthropic published its midterm election plan on 14 October 2026. Claude.ai will start drawing official voting information from Democracy Works into its answers for US users later in October, and will show official results on election night. In a sample of about 250,000 US consumer conversations from 21 to 27 September, about 5.75% touched on politics or policy, 0.51% were about elections or voting, about 0.01% asked whom or what to vote for and about 0.002% broke its election rules. Claude Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 scored 99% on its political evenhandedness evaluation. Red-teaming with the Institute for Strategic Dialogue and the McCain Institute in the US, Israel and Brazil found Claude refused single harmful requests but could miss a campaign split into harmless-looking tasks, so Anthropic added classifiers for multi-step misuse. It banned accounts of foreign operators of a fake news site that used Claude to write midterm coverage favouring Russian, Iranian and North Korean narratives.

Why it matters

US users asking Claude where or how to vote will get state-specific official information inside the answer, and campaigns have a published guide to what the usage policy allows.
