The Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi released Falcon 180B on 6 September 2023, a 180-billion-parameter model trained on 3.5 trillion tokens. It is available to researchers and businesses under the Falcon 180B TII License, based on Apache 2.0. TII said it topped the Hugging Face leaderboard for pretrained open models.

Why it matters

An Abu Dhabi research institute released an open model more than twice the size of Llama 2’s largest version.
