China's internet regulator summons NVIDIA over alleged security risks in H20 chips

Enforcement or rulingComputeCN USReported

The Cyberspace Administration of China summoned NVIDIA and told it to explain alleged vulnerability and backdoor risks in the H20 accelerators it sells in China and to submit supporting documents, citing China's cybersecurity, data security and personal information laws. The move came weeks after Washington signalled H20 sales could resume; in August, reports said Beijing had also raised concerns about H20 purchases directly with large Chinese platforms.

Why it matters

It showed Beijing would use security reviews to slow purchases of US chips that Washington permits, pushing Chinese buyers towards domestic accelerators.
