Anthropic tests AI agents for automated safety testing of AI models

See how this story connects

Anthropic presented an experiment in which AI agents search systematically for conditions that make AI models show undesired behaviour, and check how reliably existing safety measures detect such risks. Claude agents wrote training data for a small research model, meant to pass a safety filter and trigger unwanted behaviour during training, and refined their approaches repeatedly. In all trial runs the agents found suitable datasets. The most successful triggered stronger and more varied misbehaviour than earlier comparison datasets.

Why it matters

Safety tests for AI models depend heavily on human experts, and Anthropic wants to use AI agents to widen the search for risks as models become more capable.
